Litter Picking Is Back 27th February 10:30am Margery Cross 27th Feb

After a 2 year pause, John Ashwell’s Community Litter Blitz is back! Meet at Margery Cross 10:30am on Sunday 27th February to clear litter and flytipping in our parish. Join us for an hour or two if you:

[  ]are fed up with waiting for council action

[  ]want to make an immediate visible difference and enjoy being proactive

[  ]make a stance publically about littering and flytipping not being tolerated

[  ]be a positive rolemodel, especially for younger generations

[  ]want to volunteer as part of the Duke of Edinhburgh Award Scheme

[  ]fancy hanging out doing something positive with your fellow villagers and enjoy a little stroll and fresh air

Depending on volunteer numbers, it would be amazing if we could give all 3 village access roads a deep clean before grass starts growing again, including near the A40 and by the bus stop slip road. (Approx 1 sack of litter appears on each of these roads a fortnight!) If there are enough adventure seekers, we could go ‘ditch diving’ (clearing out mainly flytipping in 2 specific hot spots we have identified including removing of pallets).

The attached photo was taken last Saturday after a hugely successful 2 hours with the Stanton team and ditch cleaning along Tar Lake road. 1 full trailer plus a boot full of litter!

Practicalities:

[  ]Please wear sensible footwear and clothing.

[  ]Most of us own a high vis. Please wear it and bring spares you might be happy to share around. (this is an insurance requirement but also helps to make a visible anti-litter stance to passers by) [  ]Bring a litter picking tool or the next best thing (rakes work pretty well) [  ]If you prefer, wear protective gloves or even builders gloves We will supply litter sacks and a ladder for the ditch dive team.

Future outlook

There is a possibility to consider more frequent or even a monthly meet ups similar to Stanton Harcourt and Eynsham local groups if there is enough interest. I have been liaising with them for over a year now and there is so much scope for cooperating. We are also exploring the option of community equipment (a pool of pickers and vests). So watch this space..

Can’t make it but you would still like to help?

[  ]Eynsham litter pickers meet Sunday 27th Febuary 1.45pm at Methodist Church (questions to Pam Breeze) [  ]Stanton Harcourt on Saturday 12th March 10am (contact Steve Tuck) [  ]We also have a handful of desk and sign making jobs if you prefer helping from the comfort of your home instead Looking forward to seeing you on 27th.
